Robbery thug caught and caged after fleeing to Spain!
Marked Man Nabbed at Funeral
Mark Toth, 37, from Shrewsbury Street, Kensington, has been locked up for ten years. The final player in a terrifying robbery spree was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, June 17. Toth pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and remaining unlawfully at large.
After two of his co-conspirators were sentenced in May 2020, Toth fled to Spain to dodge the long arm of the law.
Social Media Slip Gives Him Away
His run ended when the Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce spotted photos of him on social media. They swooped on February 25, finding him in a hotel room on Hanger Lane, Ealing, where he’d sneaked back for a funeral.
As officers entered with a swipe key and hotel staff’s help, Toth screamed “I’m unarmed” and tried to smash his phone in half. No luck – he was cuffed and hauled away.
Wild Axe Attack in Broad Daylight
- Victim: Woman in her 50s
- Two men on a moped threatened her
- An axe was pressed to her neck
- She was pinned to the ground in a headlock
- Toth tried to strangle her on the pavement
- He ripped off her £25,000 Rolex Daytona watch in front of shocked bystanders
Thankfully, the woman escaped without serious injuries. But the stolen luxury watch remains missing.
Detectives Praise Victim’s Bravery
Detective Constable Peta Lundgren led the probe, saying: “This man has finally been jailed for this terrifying robbery. Two suspects were swiftly caught but despite being identified, Toth tried to slip justice by fleeing abroad.”
She added, “This sentence should be a warning: we will find and prosecute serious criminals, no matter how far they run.”
Police also thanked the victim for her courage and cooperation during the investigation.
