Man Charged After Shocking Attempted Robbery at Newport Hospital

A 46-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery following a brazen grab-and-run attempt at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

Victim Targeted in Broad Daylight

Police were called at 8.06am on Wednesday 7 December after a man allegedly grabbed a woman in her 60s and tried to snatch her handbag in the North Car Park of the hospital.

Brave members of the public detained the suspect before officers arrived on the scene.

Suspect in Custody

Nerijus Suminskas, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted robbery. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court this morning.
