Leicester Man Jailed for Rape and Assault in South Shore Alleyway
David Dara, 29, from Leicester, has been slammed with a 10-year prison sentence plus six years on licence for a brutal sexual attack in South Shore. Burnley Crown Court handed down the sentence following his conviction for rape and assault.
Horrific Attack in Broad Daylight
The chilling assault happened just after 10.30pm on April 23. The 20-year-old victim was grabbed by Dara near the Home Bargains store on Tyldesley Road. He dragged her into a dark alley and subjected her to a horrific sexual assault before violently attacking her as she lay helpless on the ground.
Dara then fled the scene on a bike. Two women found the victim soon after and took her home, reporting the terrifying incident to police immediately.
Police Investigation Quickly Cracks Case
Detectives swooped on the scene and uncovered key pieces of evidence including a mobile phone, bank card, keys, an Adidas bag, and a distinctive blue Nike hoodie—items all linked to Dara.
He was arrested alongside a 19-year-old man from Blackpool, who was later released without charge. Dara denied the charges but was found guilty after a trial at Burnley Crown Court.
Justice for Victim, Warning to Offenders
Det Sgt Lee Kelly from Blackpool CID said: “Dara is clearly a predatory and violent sex offender. His actions that night were abhorrent. He targeted a vulnerable woman, knowing she was alone, before exploiting and attacking her in an alleyway.”
“The victim has shown tremendous bravery in coming forward and telling police what happened. She has also shown great courage during the trial process.”
“Dara is clearly a dangerous individual and his sentence reflects the gravity of his actions. I must thank the investigating officers for their professionalism in handling a difficult and at times disturbing investigation.”
“We urge anyone who has been the victim of a sexual offence to come forward. We take all reports seriously and ensure victims are treated with sensitivity and professionalism.”
