Leicester Man Jailed for Brutal Rape in South Shore Alleyway

David Dara, 29, from Saxby Street, Leicester, was slammed with a decade behind bars plus six more years on licence. The Burnley Crown Court handed down the stiff sentence after Dara was found guilty of a shocking sexual assault in South Shore.

Attack in Dark Alley Near Home Bargains

On the night of April 23, around 10.30pm, a vulnerable 20-year-old woman was lured into a dark alley off Hopton Road, beside the Home Bargains store on Tyldesley Road.

Dara then viciously raped and assaulted her while she lay helpless on the ground. He fled the scene on a bike, leaving the victim traumatised but found by two good Samaritans who took her home and promptly called the police.

Key Evidence Links Dara to Crime Scene

Detectives swooped quickly, uncovering crucial evidence at the scene including a set of keys, a mobile phone, a bank card, an Adidas bag, and a blue Nike hoody. All were tied to Dara.

Police arrested Dara along with a 19-year-old from Blackpool. Dara was charged with rape; the other man was released without charge.

Justice Served For Victim’s Courage

Dara initially pleaded not guilty but after a hard-fought trial was convicted of rape and assault.

He faces 10 years in prison plus six on licence and a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

“Dara is clearly a predatory and violent sex offender,” said Detective Sergeant Lee Kelly from Blackpool CID. “He targeted a vulnerable woman alone, exploiting and attacking her in a horrific crime.

The victim has shown tremendous bravery both in coming forward and throughout the trial.”

“Dara is a dangerous individual, and his sentence matches the gravity of his actions. We urge anyone affected by sexual offences to come forward – we take all reports seriously and handle victims with the utmost care.”
