Man Rams Police Cars with Vintage Truck in Bizarre Rampage
Geoff Marshall, 41, from Norton Fitzwarren, was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court today after a wild spree of destruction involving a 1958 M35 truck.
Rampage on Station Road: Chainsaw Threat and Crash Chaos
On Sunday, 10 September, police were called to Station Road at 4.20pm by a woman fearing for her safety. When officers arrived, Marshall tried to flee—crashing his vintage two-ton truck into police vehicles and smashing into a property, causing serious structural damage.
Marshall didn’t stop there. He threatened officers with a chainsaw and ploughed his truck through multiple police cars before hitting five other unoccupied vehicles and a lamppost.
Dramatic Arrest on M5 Overbridge
His reckless joyride ended at an M5 motorway overbridge where he climbed over the barrier on the wrong side. Officers talked him down and arrested him without further incident.
Judge Labels Rampage ‘Extremely Reckless’—Offender Gets Two Years
Judge Edward Burgess handed Marshall a two-year prison sentence plus a two-year driving ban. While acknowledging Marshall’s remorse, the judge slammed his actions as putting lives at serious risk.
“His behaviour was extremely reckless and had a high chance of causing injury or death to officers.”
Police Praise Bravery Amid £100k+ Damage
Detective Inspector Claire Millington revealed the chaos caused hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage to police vehicles, private cars, buildings, street furniture, and even the motorway bridge. Some vehicles were totalled.
“His actions disrupted emergency response, neighbours, and motorway users. Public and police safety was at risk, but thankfully no one was seriously injured thanks to the bravery of officers.”
DI Millington added, “Marshall must now face the consequences for this dangerous rampage.”
