Prolific Booze Thief Banged Up After £4,000 Heist Spree
A Midlands man has finally landed behind bars for nicking nearly £4,000 worth of booze on multiple shoplifting sprees. Kevin Cleverley, 53, was busted after a string of thefts from Waitrose in Marlborough and Sainsbury’s in Bradford on Avon.
Big Haul in Trolley Caught Red-Handed
On December 2, Cleverley pulled off his biggest swindle, snagging a staggering £1,177 worth of spirits and champagne from Waitrose High Street. He stuffed the pricey booze into bags nestled in his trolley and strolled out like a regular shopper – but not for long.
Suspended Sentence Activated, 30 Weeks Inside
Already juggling a suspended sentence, Cleverley couldn’t keep his nose clean. Swindon Magistrates Court slammed the cuffs on him for 30 weeks, activating his previous sentence alongside the new charges.
“Cleverley is an individual who plans and prepares to go out and commit offences of this nature, taking items of a considerable value,” said a Wiltshire Police spokesperson. “He is a prolific shoplifter who is likely gaining profit from his crimes and it is therefore positive news for the local community that his suspended sentence has now been activated.”
