Teen Amanda Selby Killed on Family Holiday
Amanda Selby, 15, from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, tragically died at Ty Mawr Holiday Park in Towyn, Conwy county, on Saturday. The shocking incident has rocked her community and shocked those who knew her.
Brother Charged with Murder
Amanda’s 19-year-old brother, Matthew Selby, has been charged with her murder. He appeared at Mold Crown Court via videolink from HMP Berwyn, confirming only his identity. Matthew was remanded in custody, with a provisional trial set for 28 February, expected to last five to seven days. He will also face a plea hearing on 29 October.
Community in Mourning
Jiu Jitsu club Kamiza Dojo paid tribute to Amanda and her mother, both long-time pillars of the club. “Our club is saddened to hear the tragic news that one of our students, Amanda Selby, has lost her life while on holiday with her family,” the club said. “Amanda and her mother have been a big part of our club for many years, always supporting the running of the club and its students. We are truly heartbroken; Amanda will be sorely missed.”
Droylsden Academy, Amanda’s school in Manchester, said: “Our school family is devastated by this awful news. Amanda was a lovely student and she will be sorely missed by students and staff.”
