Kane Tilney, 23, wreaked havoc on Darlington’s streets with reckless, illegal bike rides. He rode on pavements, sped the wrong way down roads, and ignored helmet laws. But his biggest blunder? Filming his wild stunts and posting them on TikTok, handing the police an airtight case.
Twenty Charges Landed After Shocking TikTok Footage
Tilney was arrested in February facing around 20 charges, including dangerous driving, no licence, no insurance, and refusing to wear protective headgear. The list didn’t end there — he was also charged with assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening language.
Not Just a Slap on the Wrist
Admitting to all offences, Tilney appeared at Teesside Crown Court last Friday (November 10). The judge handed down a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, a two-year driving ban, 200 hours of unpaid work, and £100 compensation to his victim. A firm warning to keep the streets safe.
Police Promise Tough Action on Nuisance Bikers
Inspector Matt Plumb from Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team said: “Tilney thought he was above the law by filming and posting his crimes on TikTok. But it was his downfall. Thanks to PC Paul Foley’s hard work, we gathered enough evidence to charge him and bring him to justice.”
“We share the community’s frustration with bikers who terrorise our streets. This sentence shows we won’t tolerate such behaviour and will act to protect the public.”
