Dangerous Darlington Biker Busted Thanks to His Own TikTok
Kane Tilney caused chaos on Darlington’s streets with his reckless biking. The 23-year-old rode on pavements, zoomed down the wrong side of the road, and never wore a helmet. The kicker? He filmed all the madness and posted it on TikTok, handing the police a slam-dunk case.
Hit with 20 Charges After Posting Wild Rides Online
Tilney, from Salisbury Terrace, Darlington, was arrested in February and faced nearly 20 charges, including dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and failing to wear protective gear. That’s not all—he also got charged with assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening behaviour.
Last Friday (November 10), he pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court and was handed a 12-month jail sentence—suspended for 24 months. He’s banned from driving for two years, must complete 200 hours of unpaid work, and pay £100 in compensation.
Police Praise Tenacious Work Behind the Arrest
“Tilney is a prolific offender who has plagued the streets of Darlington with his dangerous and illegal riding,” said Inspector Matt Plumb from Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team. “By filming himself committing these offences and uploading them to TikTok, he clearly thought he was above the law and could do what he liked – but it ultimately led to his downfall. “PC Paul Foley invested a huge amount of time and effort gathering evidence to charge Tilney and bring him before the courts, where he had no choice but to plead guilty. “We understand the community’s frustration with riders who terrorise neighbourhoods and show blatant disregard for the law and public safety. This sentence sends a clear message: we won’t tolerate this behaviour and will act decisively.”
