Serial Thief Busted at Paddington Station After Targeting Commuters
Giuvadin Mahmet struck again at Paddington station on Thursday 11 August, snatching pricey belongings from unsuspecting commuters. The 47-year-old, from De Grey Street in Kingston Upon Hull, had been on a crime spree across London’s transport network.
Victims Include Mum at Canning Town
In September, Mahmet targeted a mum returning from her daughter’s graduation at Canning Town station. She felt him close behind, seemingly nudging her. After he left the train, she discovered her handbag was undone and her purse stolen.
Couple Pickpocketed on Paddington Escalators
The same month, Mahmet followed a couple up the escalators at Paddington station. At the top, the wife noticed her bag suddenly lightened. She turned to spot Mahmet heading back down. Despite shouting and chasing, he vanished into the crowd, making off with cards and cash.
Caught on CCTV and Jailed
British Transport Police circulated CCTV images of Mahmet throughout London. He was finally spotted at London Bridge station on 21 October and arrested. Investigations linked him to seven thefts, an attempted theft, and a fraud involving false representation.
Mahmet appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on 24 October. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 45 weeks behind bars, plus ordered to pay over £3,000 in fines.
