British Army Corporal Jailed for 14 Years Over Brutal Sexual Assault

Corporal Sam Evans, a British Army soldier, has been locked up for 14 years and will face another four years on licence after a judge ruled him a dangerous offender.

Assault Followed Months of Unwanted Advances

Evans, stationed at Plymouth Citadel, had been pestering his victim for two months after matching with her on a dating app. Despite his persistent attempts to meet, the woman made it clear she wasn’t interested.

Attack at Annabel’s Nightclub

The horrifying assault happened on Saturday 2 July 2022 at Annabel’s nightclub, where the victim was out with friends. Evans showed up with pals, knowing she often visited the venue. The case was swiftly handled by Plymouth’s specialist sexual offences team, Project Gemstone.

Victim Speaks Out on Life-Changing Trauma

“Sexual assault is more than just a physical attack; it shatters the very core of who you are,” the victim said. “Sam Evans has caused me irreparable damage. When I was at my most vulnerable, scared and isolated, I felt utterly broken. But I am determined to use my strength to help others. There is life and hope beyond sexual assault.”

Police Praise Groundbreaking Investigation

Detective Constable Lee Tucker hailed the sentence, calling it “one of the worst cases of its kind.” He praised the victim’s courage and the crucial work by Project Gemstone, launched in June 2022 to improve the response to rape and serious sexual offences.

“This operation shows what can be achieved with suspect-focused investigations and specialist officers supporting victims. We will keep fighting to bring offenders to justice, especially those who commit violence against women and girls,” Tucker added.
