Cumbria Police Inspector Fired Over Shocking Night-Out Conduct
Simon Gee, an Inspector with Cumbria Constabulary since July 2020, has been sacked following a serious misconduct hearing held from 11th to 14th April. An Independent Legally Qualified Chair led the proceedings.
Gross Misconduct Costs Inspector His Job
Gee faced four allegations, two of which were ruled as gross misconduct, with the other two deemed misconduct. The panel deemed his behaviour so severe it warranted immediate dismissal.
The investigation began after colleagues raised alarms about Gee’s inappropriate actions toward fellow officers during a night out, prompting a probe by the Professional Standards Department.
Barred from Policing for Life
As a result of the verdict, Gee will be added to the College of Policing’s barred list, banning him from ever serving as a police officer again.
Deputy Chief Constable Speaks Out
“Cumbria Police holds its officers to the highest standards on and off duty. This officer fell far below those standards,” said Deputy Chief Constable Rob Carden.
“Though this happened off duty, his comments and behaviour towards colleagues were totally unacceptable and inexcusable. No police officer should act like this.
“Gross misconduct findings mean dismissal and permanent barring from the profession.
“We want the public to know that the vast majority of our officers work hard every day to keep people safe and behave in a way we can all be proud of.
“This outcome shows we take all allegations seriously. Wrongdoing is thoroughly investigated and punished where proven.
“My thanks go to the panel and our Independent Chair for their thoroughness throughout this hearing.”
