Gunman on Stolen Moped Jailed for Over Seven Years
Leon Redda, from Stanley Gardens, W11, was slammed with a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 3 May. He had previously admitted to possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Random Shots Fired in World’s End Estate
The court heard Redda was a pillion passenger on a stolen moped that ripped into the World’s End Estate, SW10, on 18 June 2023. Armed with a handgun, Redda fired two shots seemingly at random towards members of the public. Miraculously, no one was hit.
Fast Police Work Puts Redda Behind Bars
Using rapid CCTV analysis, detectives traced the moped to a path near the River Thames, where it was abandoned. Redda threw his helmet into the water before making a run for it. He was later arrested, and data from his seized phone nailed his presence at the shooting scene.
Detective Constable Katherine Newton, Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Redda’s actions were unbelievably reckless. It is only by sheer luck no one was injured.
“After a thorough investigation, Redda chose to plead guilty. I hope this sends a strong message to criminals with firearms: the Met is relentless in hunting offenders and bringing them to justice.”
