Teen Stabs Rival in Brutal Knife Attack Outside Nottingham Shop
Jayvarn Salmon, 18, chased his victim into a shop before plunging a knife into him. The stabbing caused serious injuries, including damage to an internal organ.
The victim required surgery and later left hospital, but the attack left a lasting impact.
Deadly Clash Between Youth Gangs in Beech Avenue
The violent encounter erupted between two groups of youths in Beech Avenue at 5.49pm on Saturday, 9 January 2021.
Salmon, who has no fixed address, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 13 April 2021. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article. The court sentenced him to seven years’ detention.
Police Warn: Knife Crime Puts Public in Deadly Danger
“As this shocking incident demonstrates, anyone carrying a knife can become a danger to the public,” said Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford of Nottinghamshire Police.
“The injuries inflicted in this instance could so easily have been fatal. Nottinghamshire Police continues to work closely with partners and communities to educate people about the potential consequences of carrying knives.”
“We all have a role to play in stopping young people carrying knives and getting weapons off our streets. Carrying a knife should never be seen as acceptable, and knife crime will not be tolerated.”
Nottinghamshire Sees Drop in Knife Crime Thanks to Dedicated Efforts
Thanks to a coordinated effort involving the Violence Reduction Unit and local partners, knife crime in Nottinghamshire has fallen below the national average.
The police now boast two specialist knife crime teams relentlessly targeting weapon carriers.
“Every knife crime is one too many,” DS Bradford added. “We will continue working tirelessly with our communities and partners to reduce violence, catch offenders, and prevent people from turning to knife crime in the first place.”
Other Sentences Related to Same Incident
- The stabbing victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was locked up after pleading guilty to possession of a knife. He received a four-month detention sentence at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 10 February 2021.
- A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to eight months’ detention on 17 February 2021 for affray and possession of a knife linked to the same event.
