Carer Jailed for Ripping Off Vulnerable Pensioner

A Workington woman has been locked up for scamming an elderly lady she was meant to care for.

Paula Crickett’s £20,000 Fraud Exposed

Paula Crickett, 49, of Pearl Road, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court and was handed a three-year prison sentence. Over five years from 2015 to 2019, Crickett plundered her victim’s bank accounts. She made online purchases, transferred cash to herself, withdrew money, and even took out loans and credit cards in the victim’s name.

Luxury Treats on the Victim’s Dime

Detective Constable Paul Hulse revealed Crickett used the stolen funds to splurge on items for herself and her family, including footing the bill for a holiday for her son. She even pretended to be the victim when calling a major store card company.

“Crickett took advantage of her position of trust as a carer and took control of the victim’s bank account for her own gain,” said DC Hulse.

Justice Served for Vulnerable Victim

Despite continually denying the accusations, Crickett was found guilty of 16 fraud offences. Police vowed to keep fighting to protect vulnerable people from predators like her.

“I hope today’s sentence provides some justice for the victim and their family,” added DC Hulse. “We will continue to pursue offenders through the court system.”
