Driver Jailed After Fatal Crash on A31

Victoria Howell, 23, from Farnborough, has been sentenced for causing death by careless driving. The crash happened on 16 October 2019 when her Suzuki Vitara smashed into a moped on the A31 around 9:30pm. The moped rider, Connor Traves from Camberley, was thrown into oncoming traffic and died from his injuries.

Sentence Delivered at Guildford Magistrates’ Court

Howell pleaded guilty and was handed a tough sentence at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 20 April. She must complete 200 hours of unpaid work, wear an electronic curfew tag for six months, and faces a two-year driving ban with an extended re-test before returning to the road in February 2023.

Family Pays Tribute to “Lovely, Funny Young Man”

Connor’s family described him as a “lovely, funny young man” with “the biggest heart” who “always knew how to make people laugh.” Their heartbreaking loss is a stark reminder of the consequences of careless driving.

Investigator Stuart Bonner from Surrey Police said: “Howell’s careless driving ultimately cost a young man his life. This case highlights the vital responsibility all motorists have to stay alert and drive carefully.”
