Chilling Murder on Deserted Train Platform Shocks Walsall

A Sudanese asylum seeker, Deng Chol Majek, stalked and fatally stabbed a 27-year-old British woman on a lonely train platform, a court has heard.

Brutal Attack at Bescott Station

Majek, who claims to be 19, targeted Rhiannon Whyte as she made her way home after finishing work at a migrant hotel in Walsall. The horrific stabbing happened on October 20 last year.

Prosecutors say Majek followed Ms Whyte to the deserted Bescott station platform, where he plunged a screwdriver into her 23 times while she waited for a late train. She was on a call to a friend when chilling screams pierced the quiet, followed by an eerie silence.

A train driver discovered Ms Whyte slumped on the platform 11 minutes later. Despite desperate medical efforts, she died three days after the savage attack, surrounded by family.

‘Frenzied Attack’ Followed by Callous Celebration

CCTV caught Majek fleeing with what appeared to be Ms Whyte’s phone. Instead of heading home, he stopped off for a drink at a local shop before returning to the migrant hotel well past midnight.

Police later found Ms Whyte’s phone dumped in a nearby river, allegedly thrown there by Majek during his escape. Shockingly, once back at the hotel, he was seen dancing and laughing, seemingly celebrating the brutal attack, while carrying a black plastic bag reportedly filled with alcohol.

Majek Denies Murder as Trial Continues

Majek denies the murder charge and a separate count of possessing a screwdriver in public.

Ms Whyte had worked for three months at the Park Inn Hotel, helping with cleaning and food service. Majek lived at the same hotel, which was converted to house asylum seekers. Questions remain over his claimed age of 18 at the time.

The trial is ongoing, with more explosive evidence expected to come to light.
