£7,000 Omega Watch Snatched in Dead of Night at Sloane Square
Mohamed Guemat, 30, has been slammed with 16 months behind bars after snatching a £7,000 Omega watch from a drinker outside a Sloane Square bar. The victim, Sirous Wadia, refused to let the thief escape and gave chase through Chelsea’s posh gardens and backstreets for a thrilling 20 minutes.

The brazen robbery unfolded around 1am on October 18. Guemat ripped the luxury watch from Mr Wadia’s wrist as he climbed into an Uber with a friend. But Wadia, his mate, and a security guard launched a furious pursuit, hurdling fences and sprinting across private gardens. Police soon swooped, cornering Guemat late that night.
Thief Caught Red-Handed Despite Suspended Sentence
Guemat wasn’t just lucky – he was already on a suspended sentence when he committed the theft. The Southwark local faced Isleworth Crown Court and admitted the crime. Using an Arabic interpreter, he confirmed his details but kept quiet otherwise.

Guemat’s lawyer, George Dugbo, told the court the thief is an Algerian asylum seeker currently couch-surfing while his claim is processed by the Home Office. “He has no job and no means,” Dugbo said, but the court showed no leniency and passed the jail sentence.
