Basildon Predator Jailed for Child Sexual Abuse
Emlyn Hann, 31, from Goldings Crescent, Basildon, was locked up for four years at Basildon Crown Court on 16 March. He pled guilty to multiple sexual offences against a child and was slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Brave Victim Steps Forward
The case came to light in October 2020 when a courageous victim reported the abuse to Essex Police. They revealed horrific multiple sexual assaults from their childhood.
Hann was quickly identified as the prime suspect and taken in for questioning.
Strong Police Investigation Leads to Charges
Essex Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team conducted a rigorous inquiry. Hann was charged with:
- One count of sexual assault of a child
- Two counts of rape of a child under 13
- Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
He later admitted all charges in November 2022.
Justice Served and Support Offered
At sentencing, Hann was handed a four-year prison term. He was also issued an indefinite Sexual Notification Order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The victim’s family publicly thanked the police for their dedication and support throughout the investigation.
Detective Constable Louise Poole said: “I want to thank the victim for their incredible courage in coming forward and trusting Essex Police to deliver justice. The defendant stole much of their childhood through abuse. If you’re afraid to speak out, please reach out to someone you trust. You will be supported and helped. Children have the right to be safe, no matter the power their abuser holds. We hope this sentence brings some closure to the victim and their family.”
