Broadband Blackouts as Thieves Hit Multiple Towns
Between 24 September and 4 October 2024, the crooks struck roadside telecom cabinets in Canterbury, Herne Bay, West Malling, Eynsford in Dartford, and Claygate, Surrey. They made off with batteries worth around £18,750 — sparking furious outages for local broadband users.
Kent Police Crack Down with Gillingham Arrests
Authorities pounced on 7 October 2024 in Hempstead, Gillingham, arresting two suspects. After meticulous investigations, charges were filed on 6 November 2025. Levi Backett, 38, from Frinsted Road, Erith, faces 23 theft charges. A 15-year-old boy was slapped with 17 counts.
