Alieu George, 45, homeless and on the run, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration at Brighton Crown Court. The verdict came down on Wednesday, 17 December, despite his protests of innocence.

Heroic Witnesses Spot Attack and Call Police

On the morning of Sunday, 22 June, three passersby in Dorset Gardens, Brighton, spotted a frightening scene. At around 9.05am, they saw a man and a distressed woman. Moments later, the witnesses saw George lying on top of the woman on the ground.

Quick-thinking witnesses dialled 999 without hesitation. Police arrived within minutes to find the 34-year-old victim visibly shaken and George nearby, who lied that the woman was his girlfriend.

Victim’s chilling account of the ordeal

The victim told police she’d been out drinking after work when George approached her, pulling her away from friends. He brutally assaulted her repeatedly before dragging her to Dorset Gardens and raping her.

George was grabbed at the scene and charged that same day.

Justice Served – Sentencing Set for March 2026

Following the guilty verdict, George was remanded in custody. He will face sentencing at Brighton Crown Court on 10 March 2026.

Detective Constable Daisy Alden said:

“I want to commend the victim’s bravery and the quick actions of those three members of the public who called 999.

Their evidence was powerful and crucial in securing this conviction.

Alieu George preyed on a vulnerable woman and poses a serious danger to others. Brighton and Sussex are safer with him behind bars.

We are determined to tackle male violence against women and encourage anyone affected to report offences online, call 101, or dial 999 in emergencies.”
