Gruesome Killing of Elderly Woman

Hill admitted breaking into Thompson’s home on Bolde Way, Spital, where she assaulted and suffocated the vulnerable pensioner as she lay in bed. Thompson was found dead on the morning of Tuesday, April 23. The cause? Mechanical asphyxiation.

Not just murder—Hill also pleaded guilty to theft, having stolen cash from Thompson’s purse. The betrayal cuts deep, with Thompson’s own carer turning on the frail woman she was meant to protect.

‘Ultimate Breach of Trust’, Says Police

Detective Inspector Dave Jones blasted the attack as “the ultimate breach of trust,” highlighting how Hill targeted a frail old lady in her own home. “She showed no remorse and will now face a long stretch behind bars,” he added.

Community and Family Reeling

The case has sent shockwaves through Spital. Ann Jarvis, Thompson’s neighbour and friend, expressed her heartbreak.

“Myra was a kind, trusting soul who devoted her life to caring for others, including her disabled husband. This has shattered my faith in humanity,” Jarvis said.

Thompson’s niece, Anne Charters, welcomed the sentencing but admitted the pain remains.

“We’re relieved the case is over and the sentence fits the crime. But it’s hard to come to terms with such a cruel betrayal and the violence Aunt Myra suffered,” she said.
