Drug-Driving Disgrace: Philip Riley, 43, caught behind the wheel while disqualified – and stoned on cocaine – has been handed a suspended jail term.
Busted Speeding on A4
Last June, police pulled over a suspicious Peugeot CRZ on the A4 Bath Road at Box. Behind the wheel was Philip Riley – despite a driving ban. A roadside drug test confirmed he was under the influence of cocaine.
Weapons and Drugs Stashed in Car
Inside Riley’s car, officers found a bag loaded with drug paraphernalia, a knife, and a dart gun. The discovery added to his growing legal troubles.
Jail Term Suspended and Longer Ban
At Swindon Magistrates Court, Riley pled guilty to possession of a knife blade, an offensive weapon, drug driving, and driving while disqualified. The court sentenced him to 16 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, slapped on an 18-month driving ban, and imposed a curfew.
PC Luke Hobbs said: “Our Roads Policing Unit is committed to keeping Wiltshire’s roads safe. Removing Riley from the roads for 18 months means less risk to other drivers, which is a win for everyone. If you suspect drug-driving, report it immediately. Those who get behind the wheel on illegal drugs endanger lives and must face the courts.”
