Chelmsford Attacker Locked Up After String of Shocking Assaults on Women and Girls
Chelmsford’s top cops have nailed a thug behind a nasty spree of assaults and threats targeting women and girls in the town centre. Jake Carter, 27, has been slammed with prison time after a relentless police probe.
Brutal Attacks Spark Panic in Chelmsford
Tensions soared earlier this year when women and young girls were repeatedly approached, threatened, and attacked by an unknown man cycling around the streets. The first brutal strike saw a woman sucker-punched from behind at traffic lights on Chelmer Road on August 22.
Less than two weeks later, two teenage girls aged 14 and 15 were chased off by the same man at Chelmer Village Way. Then on September 6, a woman with her child was targeted with intimidating shouts and a forceful bike charge on Peel Road. The nightmare didn’t end there—two more teens were spat at and shoved on Springfield Road that same day.
Perp Identified and Arrested
Police quickly identified Jake Carter from Meadgate Avenue as the culprit. Despite his denials, he faced six counts of common assault after victims bravely stepped forward to give evidence.
Justice Served: Six Months Behind Bars
After a two-day court showdown, Carter was convicted at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and slapped with a six-month prison sentence on November 2.
“The officers were excellent and kept me updated throughout the process,” said one victim. “The witness care team also ensured I was informed about the sentencing. I can’t fault any part of the service I received.”
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery, Vow to Protect Community
PC Chris Cleverley, who spearheaded the investigation, said: “These attacks shook our community. We acted fast to catch this offender and hold him accountable. I want to thank the victims for their courage—they were key to securing justice. This case shows our firm commitment to keeping Chelmsford safe.”
