Chris Brown Denied Bail Over London GBH Charge
International R&B star Chris Brown has been refused bail and is now behind bars. A Manchester judge remanded the 36-year-old Grammy winner in custody over a serious grievous bodily harm (GBH) charge linked to a violent incident in London in 2023.
Arrest and Court Details
Brown appeared in court on Friday, 16 May, facing charges of causing GBH with intent. The alleged assault took place on Sunday, 19 February 2023, at a venue in Hanover Square, Mayfair, central London.
He was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 15 May, at a luxury hotel in Manchester. Metropolitan Police detectives flew in to execute the warrant following his arrival in the UK ahead of his summer tour.
Brown will remain in custody until his next court hearing on 13 June 2025.
Case Background and Legal Threat
The alleged victim, reportedly a music producer, sustained injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment after the nightclub confrontation.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed the charge under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which can carry a life sentence. Brown has yet to enter a plea.
Police Statement and Tour Uncertainty
“A 36-year-old man was arrested in Manchester on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He was charged and remanded in custody to appear at court,” the Metropolitan Police said.
Legal experts expect a high-profile trial given Brown’s fame and looming UK tour dates.
These developments now throw the upcoming UK and European tour into doubt. Brown’s Manchester gig at the Co-Op Live Arena on 15 June is currently hanging in the balance. No word yet from his management on cancellations or ticket refunds.
