Brothers Jailed After Roof Rampage Rocks Community
Two brothers from Enfield have been locked up for a wild rooftop standoff that terrorised their local neighbourhood.
15 Months Inside for Brothers’ Roof Rampage
Billy Watson, 20, and brother Charlie, 18, both from Tile Kiln Lane, Enfield, were sentenced to 15 months behind bars each. The charges? Public nuisance, affray, and two counts of criminal damage apiece.
They pled guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court on 2 May before the final sentencing the same day.
Police Chase Ends in Rooftop Stand-Off
The drama unfolded on Tuesday 26 March around 5pm. Patrol officers spotted Billy and Charlie acting suspiciously near a motorbike in a car park off Kingsgate Road, NW6. When officers approached, the brothers bolted, scaling garden fences and clambering onto terrace rooftops via scaffolding.
Worryingly, locals tipped off police that the men might be armed with a gun. The brothers then hurled roof tiles and objects at officers below, smashing property and sparking panic.
Residents Evacuated as Chaos Unfolds
Because of the firearm reports, several residents were evacuated for their safety. A big cordon was set up. The brothers stayed on the roofs until nearly 1am the next day before finally surrendering.
Both were arrested for criminal damage, public nuisance, and affray. Further police searches found no firearms and confirmed the bike was not stolen.
Police Slam Brothers for Community Disruption
“The actions of both men caused a huge disturbance to the local community,” said Detective Constable Dean Puzey. “Residents were displaced for hours, police and ambulance resources were diverted, and the National Police Air Service had to attend – disturbing even more people.
“They threw tiles off roofs at officers, endangering lives and damaging many properties. We hope this prosecution reassures the community that such wanton behaviour has serious consequences.”
On top of his 15 months, Charlie Watson received an extra six months for possession of an offensive weapon in a separate case – making sure he stays behind bars longer.
