Sports Coach and Partner Found Guilty of Assaulting Teen
James Owen, 55, and his partner Ellen Rae, 51, have been convicted of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman. The Winchester Crown Court jury returned a majority verdict today, ending the high-profile case.
James Owen’s Disturbing Crimes
- Charges: Owen was found guilty of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
- Details: Working as a sports coach, Owen abused his position during fitness training sessions at his home between January and February 2021. He also raped the victim in a hot tub at his property in February 2021 while Ellen Rae was present.
Ellen Rae’s Role in the Assaults
- Charges: Rae was convicted of sexual assault and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
- Involvement: Rae was complicit, grooming the victim and assisting Owen in carrying out the attacks.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
Detective Constable Martyn Powell said, “James Owen abused his role as a fitness coach to exploit a vulnerable teenage girl, touching her under the guise of exercise. Over weeks, he lured her to his home, gave her alcohol, and raped her in front of Ellen Rae. Rae played a key part in grooming and assisting him in these crimes.”
