Maryport Couple Jailed for Peddling Cocaine and Cannabis in Workington
Sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court
A Maryport couple caught supplying cocaine and cannabis in the Workington area have been handed prison sentences after a major police crackdown. Shaun Rafferty, 44, and Chloe Rafferty, 32, both from Kirkby Street, Maryport, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on March 3 following convictions for multiple drug offences.
- Possession with intent to supply Class A (Cocaine)
- Possession with intent to supply Class B (Cannabis)
- Being concerned in the supply of Cocaine
- Being concerned in the supply of Cannabis
Shaun Rafferty was locked up for two years and eight months. His partner Chloe received a 24-month suspended sentence.
Police Raid Exposes Drug Den
On April 17, 2023, officers executing a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act warrant raided the couple’s home in Far Moss, Workington. The search uncovered:
- 21.5 grams of cocaine in plastic bags
- Eight street deals of cocaine
- Cannabis stashed in a kitchen cupboard
- Drug paraphernalia including scales and snap bags
- A large sum of cash
The pair were instantly arrested and their mobile phones seized for investigation.
Phone Records Unveil Drug Network
Forensic analysis of the seized mobiles confirmed their roles in drug dealing. The evidence included:
- Messages offering cocaine and cannabis for sale
- Discussions about drug pricing
- Threats related to unpaid drug debts
- Financial transactions linked to drug deals
Police Issue Strong Warning
Detective Constable Ben Wright from Cumberland CID commented:
“Drug supply is a blight on our community that must be addressed. This conviction sends a clear message that anyone who chooses to supply drugs will be pursued and brought to justice.”
He urged locals to report any suspicious drug activity to help keep their communities safe.
