Burnley Woman, 85, Found Dead with Head Injuries in Shocking Early Morning Incident
Tragic Death on Prairie Crescent
At around 3:30am on Sunday, police were called to an address on Prairie Crescent after the Ambulance Service reported a woman with serious head injuries. The victim, later identified as Inayat Begum, 85, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A family member described Mrs Begum as a cherished and kind-hearted figure in the Burnley community. Her sudden death has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
Man Charged with Murder
A 43-year-old man from Burnley was arrested soon after the discovery. Following discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service, Mumtaz Ahmed, 43, of Prairie Crescent, has officially been charged with murder. He is set to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 27.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Higson from Lancashire Police’s Major Investigation Team said: “These are incredibly sad and tragic circumstances. My thoughts are with Mrs Begum’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
“I would encourage anyone with information that might help our investigation to contact police on 101, quoting log 0296 of April 24.”
