Door Supervisor Caught Using Fake SIA Licence Lands 12 Months Behind Bars
A rogue door supervisor has been sent to prison for a year after using a cloned Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence to work illegally 46 times between June and October 2021. Babatunde Kufuli was busted while working at a venue in CROYDON" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Croydon, kicking off a major SIA probe.
Fugitive Caught After Dodging Justice for Months
The drama began in October 2021 when SIA agents tried to question Kufuli at work. He made a swift exit, fleeing the scene to avoid the grilling. By January 2023, Kufuli faced charges at City of London Magistrates’ Court but failed to show, sparking a warrant for his arrest.
He spent months on the run until police finally grabbed him on 29 May 2024. Kufuli later pleaded guilty to two charges at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court. On 4 September 2024, Aylesbury Crown Court sentenced him to 12 months in prison for his fraudulent security work.
SIA Warns of Dangers from Fake Licences
Jenny Hart, Criminal Investigations Manager at the SIA, slammed the use of fake licences. “When somebody works in the private security industry with a cloned licence, they put the public, their colleagues, and themselves at risk,” she said. “Licensed security operatives undergo extensive training to protect the public. Unvetted and untrained individuals like Kufuli endanger lives.”
Police and SIA Team Up to Catch Fugitive Fraudster
Hart praised the teamwork between the SIA, 1, and the Metropolitan Police in snagging Kufuli. “This conviction shows we won’t stop chasing those who try to escape justice by hiding. We work hand-in-hand with the police to find, arrest, and bring offenders before the court,” she added.
The SIA urges the public to report any suspicious or illegal activity in the security sector, warning that unlicensed workers pose a serious threat to public safety.
