Reckless Driver Jailed Over Pensioner’s Death in Shocking Bradford Smash
A reckless driver has been locked up for causing the death of 68-year-old pensioner Darrell Dalton in a horror crash on Little Horton Lane, Bradford.
Deadly Crash on Little Horton Lane
Darrell Dalton was fatally hit while walking along Little Horton Lane on 27 September. The culprit, 28-year-old Robert Nagoda, tore through the street in a Honda Jazz. Nagoda, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and several other offences, including:
- Taking a vehicle without consent
- Driving without a licence or insurance
- Failing to stop and report the collision
On 16 December, Bradford Crown Court sentenced Nagoda to 10 years and eight months behind bars. He was also banned from driving for over 10 years.
Speeding at More Than Double the Limit
Court heard Nagoda was speeding between 56mph and 70mph in a 30mph zone when he slammed into Mr Dalton. Instead of stopping, he fled the scene, showing shocking disregard for human life.
Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute
“I miss us speaking every night. I miss him coming to our home and watching his face change as my son screamed Grandad and threw himself at him. My dad was affectionately known as ‘Grumpy Grandad.’ That never applied when he saw my son. Only smiles and sharing strawberries cuddled on the sofa watching kids TV together. This should never have happened. No licence and driving – it should never have happened. I’m angry is an understatement. Not only do I live this pain now, I’ll always have to live it because every time my son comes to me and tells me he misses his grandad, I feel both my loss and my son’s loss too.”
Police Condemn ‘Reckless’ Driver
Detective Sergeant Steve Suggitt said: “Nagoda’s reckless actions devastated Mr Dalton’s entire family. This tragic case shows the deadly consequences of dangerous driving. He showed no respect for road rules and drove off like it was nothing after hitting Mr Dalton. While no sentence can bring Darrell back, I hope this jail time gives his family some comfort knowing justice has been done.”
