Speed Demon’s Fatal Crash: 82-Year-Old Woman Dies in Horror Smash
Trent Jason Simm, 24, has been locked up for 14 years after a deadly high-speed crash that claimed the life of 82-year-old Doris Bridgehouse and left three others injured. The horrific collision happened late on Friday, May 13, 2022, on Halifax Road, Rochdale.
Outrageous Speed on a 30mph Road
Police revealed Simm was tearing down Halifax Road in his Audi S3 at mind-blowing speeds. CCTV showed him hitting a staggering 118 mph on a 30 mph limit just moments before he lost control on a sharp left bend. His car careered across the road and smashed head-on into a Kia Venga carrying Doris and her family.
Tragic Aftermath and Emotional Courtroom
Despite emergency crews’ best efforts, Doris was pronounced dead at the scene. Two Audi passengers were seriously hurt and rushed to hospital. Simm was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
In court, it emerged Doris was driving her daughter Amanda and grandson home from a university showcase. Amanda read a heartfelt statement describing the ongoing pain and grief her family continues to suffer because of Simm’s reckless actions. “You have destroyed two families,” she told him.
Justice Served: Long Jail Term and Driving Ban
Simm pleaded guilty in October 2023 and was sentenced on November 14 to 14 years behind bars. He also faces a five-year driving ban once released.
Sergeant Louise Warhurst of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We thank the public for their support during this investigation. This case is a stark reminder that speeding kills. Reckless driving ruins lives.”
The brutal crash is a grim warning about the deadly consequences of breaking speed limits on UK roads.
