Drug Kingpin’s Luxury Life Crumbles as 20-Year Jail Term Hits

Joshua Bromwell, 34, has been locked up for 20 years after a massive cocaine racket spanning London was smashed by police. The Kent man’s secret life of drug dealing and luxury living came crashing down following a sting that cracked open a major supply chain.

Encrypted Chats Blow Lid on Cocaine Empire

In June 2023, John Nwaogbo, 29, was caught at a Barnet safe house thanks to a joint National Crime Agency (NCA) and Metropolitan Police Organised Crime Partnership (OCP) operation. The teams uncovered huge cocaine stashes linked back to Bromwell, who ran the operation from Harrietsham, Kent.

Bromwell used the encrypted EncroChat platform under the alias ‘acecarlito’ to coordinate cocaine drops in South London hotspots like Stockwell and the Oval between March and June 2020. His gang also supplied the infamous London Fields crew, notorious for violent knife and gun crime.

Drug Dealer’s Lavish Lifestyle Exposed

Even after EncroChat was shut down, Bromwell pushed on with his empire in 2023, switching to WhatsApp while claiming he was a music producer. But US border agents stopped him in his tracks at Atlanta Airport, uncovering WhatsApp messages showing he moved over 52 kilos of cocaine in just 15 days.

  • Paid £3,500 for a secret car compartment to smuggle drugs
  • Police raids found designer clothes and luxury watches – including two Rolexes and an Audemars Piguet
  • Top-end tech gadgets beyond his declared £18,000 yearly income

Justice Served After Gruelling Trial

Bromwell was convicted of two counts of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs at Croydon Crown Court on January 24 after a tough two-week trial. On November 21, he was sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

Andrew Tickner, NCA Operations Manager, said: “Joshua Bromwell was a typical street-level dealer in one sense, but this investigation revealed a life of luxury funded by high-level drug trafficking, all while pretending to be a music producer.

“The unique partnership between the NCA and Metropolitan Police continues to tackle the serious crime that fuels violence and exploitation in our communities. We won’t stop until more offenders like Bromwell face justice.”
