A driver caught drink-driving on the M25 has been slapped with a hefty ban — all thanks to a vigilant motorist who spotted his reckless behaviour.
Erratic Driving Sparks Police Chase
Airidas Vasiliauskas, 32, from Boston, Lincolnshire, was seen weaving wildly in a white Vauxhall Insignia near Junction 10 (Wisley) on April 5. A concerned eyewitness quickly tipped off the police.
Officers from Surrey Police intercepted Vasiliauskas on the northbound A3 at Painshill. A breath test revealed he was more than twice over the legal alcohol limit, blowing at 80 microgrammes per 100ml of breath.
More Crimes Uncovered
Digging deeper, police found Vasiliauskas was already disqualified from driving until December 2026. The Vauxhall he was behind the wheel in was registered and insured to someone else.
He was arrested on multiple charges:
- Drink driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Driving without insurance
- Crossing a solid white line on a motorway
The car was seized under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Judge Hits Out With Stiff Sentence
At Staines Magistrates’ Court on April 7, Vasiliauskas was given an eight-week prison sentence — suspended for 12 months — plus 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also slapped with £85 court costs, a £154 victim surcharge, and a further driving ban.
Police Praise Public for Quick Action
PC Robert Hall, investigating the case, said:
“We’ve got another drink driver off the roads thanks to a member of the public who flagged up his dangerous driving. This shows that reporting these concerns really does make a difference and we urge everyone to keep speaking up.”
He added:
“Thankfully, no one was hurt. Drink driving is one of the Fatal 5 offences, and we prioritise cracking down on it to keep everyone safe.”
