German Shepherd Athena Vanishes After Fatal M1 Crash in Yorkshire
A German shepherd named Athena fled the scene after a horrific motorway crash on the M1 near junction 33, South Yorkshire. The smash left a family springer spaniel dead, police have confirmed.
Tragic Crash Claims One Dog, Another Missing
The collision happened around 6.45pm on Saturday 15 March. A car carrying three dogs slammed into another vehicle. The springer spaniel died instantly at the scene. A Staffordshire bull terrier stayed inside the car unharmed. But Athena bolted and hasn’t been found since.
Police Plead With Public to Find Lost German Shepherd
South Yorkshire Police launched a desperate appeal to track down Athena. Officers scoured the area but the dog remains missing. A rep said:
“We, and the owners, have still sadly been unable to find Athena. We urge everyone to be vigilant. If you spot a German shepherd who could be Athena, please get in touch immediately.”
The family is devastated, battling heartbreak over their lost spaniel and now missing shepherd.
Driver Arrested & Court Date Set
The other driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He is due in SHEFFIELD" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 17 March).
