York Murder Shocker: Man Charged After Fatal Stabbing of Greg Marshall

Man Held Over Deadly Stabbing

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder after Greg Marshall, 35, was fatally stabbed in York. Police found Marshall at around 4:45am on Saturday in the Roche Avenue/Bellfarm Avenue area. Despite efforts, he died later in hospital.

Ian Franklin, with no fixed address, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He faces charges of murder and possession of a bladed weapon. Franklin refused to enter a plea and has been remanded in custody. He will appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

Second Man Charged with Affray

Also due in Leeds Crown Court is Jason Rhodes, 33, from Union Terrace, York. Rhodes is charged with affray and possession of a bladed article linked to the stabbing incident.

A third man, aged 29, initially arrested for aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon, has since been recalled to prison, police confirmed.

Investigation Ongoing, Family in Mourning

“Our thoughts are with Greg’s family and friends at this very sad time,” said Detective Inspector Dominic Holroyd, leading the probe. “We recognise the distress this has caused in the community and thank everyone for their patience and support as we thoroughly investigate this isolated incident.”

Greg Marshall’s family paid a moving tribute, calling him a “beloved son, father, husband, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many far and wide.” They asked for privacy during their heartbreaking ordeal.
