Teenager Arrested After A14 Ipswich Shutdown
Police have arrested a teenage girl following yesterday’s dramatic closure of the A14 in Ipswich. The major road was shut after concerns for a woman’s welfare near Nacton sparked a huge emergency response.
Full-Scale Emergency Response at Nacton
At around 11:40 am, officers rushed to reports of a female in distress. The response involved police, negotiators, ambulance crews, fire services, and National Highways officials. The tense situation was safely resolved by 4:25 pm, allowing the A14 to reopen in both directions just 20 minutes later.
Woman Held Over Public Nuisance
The teenage female was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance linked to the incident. She was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and later released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Separate Arrest During Road Closure
The chaos didn’t end there. A 59-year-old Ipswich man, Mark Wymer of Hurricane Place, was also arrested after he confronted police and negotiators with abusive behaviour. He faced charges of obstructing officers and carrying a lock knife in public. Wymer has since been released on bail and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on March 18, 2024.
