Young Prison Officer Sleeps with Convict – Avoids Jail in Shocking Scandal
A 22-year-old female prison officer has been dodging jail after having sex with a 30-year-old inmate inside a prison cleaning cupboard – when she was just 19. Victoria Whitmore’s steamy misconduct at HMP Woodhill shocked the court, but a judge spared her custody, citing “exceptional circumstances.”
Emotional Hearing at Amersham Crown Court
Whitmore, a mother-of-one from Milton Keynes" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Milton Keynes, appeared emotional and dressed in black as she faced a misconduct charge involving a public office. Between February and May 2021, she abandoned her duties to meet inmate Gavin McIntosh, engaging in kissing and sexual touching behind closed doors.
Whitmore denies full sex took place, a claim backed by the prosecution. She has also been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which played a role in her defence.
Evidence Unearthed by Fellow Officers
The scandal came to light after an intelligence report filed by prison staff. Prosecutor Olivia English revealed Whitmore’s secret phone calls and CCTV footage showed the pair entering the cleaning cupboard multiple times. Even after her suspension at Woodhill, CCTV caught her visiting McIntosh at HMP Swaleside following his transfer.
Judge Suspends Sentence Over Child’s Welfare
Defence lawyer Oliver Pateman painted McIntosh as a “manipulative and dangerous prisoner,” while describing Whitmore as naive and vulnerable. Judge Catherine Tulk agreed Whitmore had been exploited and described the offences as “low-level sexual conduct.”
“You have demonstrated potential for rehabilitation over the past three years,” said Judge Tulk.
The judge highlighted the impact an immediate jail term would have on Whitmore’s young child and ruled a suspended nine-month sentence was appropriate. Whitmore must also complete up to 25 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days over 18 months.
