First Photo Released of Architect Stabbed to Death Weeks Before Wedding
The tragic murder of 38-year-old architect Harpal Singh Roopra has shocked Twickenham. Just weeks from tying the knot, Harpal was fatally stabbed outside a property on Ellerman Avenue shortly before midnight on Saturday, 26 April 2025. Emergency services rushed to the scene but he was pronounced dead there.
Family Mourns “Beautiful Boy” with Bright Future
Harpal had been temporarily living at the Twickenham address while renovating the couple’s future home in Wembley. His devastated family described him as a hardworking, peaceful man who loved his family deeply.
“We have lost our beautiful boy. He had his life ahead of him. He was going to get married to the love of his life, and we were so excited,” said Harpal’s father, Harbans Singh. “We can’t believe what has happened. My son was the most peaceful man, loving and hardworking.”
His eldest brother Amajit added:
“He would do anything for anyone. He loved life, films and riding his motorcycle. To think we’ve lost one of our four brothers is just too much to take.”
Man Charged with Murder After Shocking Stabbing
Police have charged 45-year-old George Luka of Ellerman Avenue with murder. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court earlier today. The quiet suburban street was rocked by aggressive shouting moments before the fatal attack.
One neighbour said:
“We heard shouting and then the road was full of police and ambulances. It was a shocking and horrific scene.”
Another resident added:
“It’s a lovely area, totally not what we expect. To wake up to this on your doorstep is horrific.”
Police Appeal as Investigation Continues
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the probe.
“A team of detectives are piecing together the circumstances of this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family. Officers will remain in the area to gather evidence and reassure the community.”
Police are urging anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage from Ellerman Avenue to come forward. This murder highlights growing fears over violence in London, echoing recent reports on rising crime hotspots across the capital.
