Teddy Kelt’s Knife Rampage Terrorises London Tube
Teddy Kelt, 20, from Bower Close, went on a four-day violent spree across London’s railway network. He threatened and attacked multiple victims at knifepoint, snatching phones, laptops, and valuables worth nearly £4,000. The young thug was hauled before Inner London Crown Court on November 5.
Stalking and Threats on the Tube
It all began on December 4 at Mile End Underground station. Kelt followed a 22-year-old man onto the platform at 9:30pm, flashing a knife and grinning as he warned he’d stab him if he called for help. He snatched the man’s phone, rifled through his pockets, slapped and shoved him to the floor before fleeing.
Next day, armed with a machete, Kelt targeted a 16-year-old boy on a Jubilee Line train. He demanded the boy’s phone and threatened to visit his college if the robbery was reported.
Brutal Attacks on Trains and Stations
Two days later, Kelt jumped on a Northern Line train to Totteridge and Whetstone and tried to rob three passengers. He harassed a 21-year-old over his watch, menaced a 13-year-old boy, and threatened a 19-year-old with his knife unless he handed over his phone. Kelt even dropped his blade before storming off.
On December 8 at Finchley Central station, Kelt asked to use a man’s phone but then revealed a knife tucked into his waistband. He threatened to kill the man and forced him to hand over a phone, laptop, and iPad. The nightmare went on as Kelt forced the victim off at Tufnell Park and robbed him again at a newsagent, stealing headphones and a rucksack.
Busted and Locked Up
The spree wasn’t finished. On an Elizabeth Line train, Kelt tried to rob a 17-year-old, threatening to stab him. When passengers intervened, Kelt threw a punch. Minutes later, he threatened another man, warning he’d “slash his neck” before walking off.
British Transport Police tracked Kelt down via CCTV after a December 9 attack at Gidea Park. They caught him in his garden wearing stolen items and found several stolen phones at his home.
On September 9, Kelt pleaded guilty to:
- Three counts of robbery
- Three counts of attempted robbery
- Two public order offences
- Two counts of possessing a knife or bladed article in public
- Common assault
He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, to run after a previous sentence of three years and eight months for crimes including robbery, drug possession, and carrying corrosive substances.
Criminal Behaviour Order Bans Kelt Until 2040
Kelt was slapped with a Criminal Behaviour Order lasting until November 2040. It bans him from wearing face coverings on public transport, possessing phones not registered in his name, and restricts his travel across all UK railway networks.
Detective Sergeant Steven Ridpath-Mitchell blasted Kelt:
“Kelt is an exceedingly violent and dangerous individual who spent four days mostly targeting teenagers, threatening them at knifepoint or violently assaulting them, for his own benefit.
I hope that this sentence provides some sense of closure to the victims after he put them through such an awful ordeal.
He’s shown no remorse, refusing to be interviewed or comment.
The frequency and violence of his attacks in such a short time is frankly sickening.”
