Ilford restaurant boss slapped with £7,150 fine for fly-tipping in Redbridge street
Restaurant Owner Caught Dumping Commercial Waste
Bismillah Ullah, 36, from Hayes, Middlesex, has been hit with a hefty fine after illegally dumping commercial food waste, oil drums, and packaging in a residential area of Redbridge. The rubbish, linked to Ullah’s own Watan restaurant on Ilford Lane, was dumped on Hampton Road following complaints from fed-up locals.
Rotten Rubbish Piled High Behind Eatery
Redbridge Council enforcement officers were called in after residents spotted piles of rubbish stacked against a side wall near the restaurant. The dumped waste included:
- Black bags stuffed with rotting food waste
- Catering oil drums
- Packaging and food delivery containers bearing Watan branding
Investigators quickly traced the refuse back to Watan restaurant and identified Ullah as the culprit responsible for the blatant fly-tipping.
Guilty Verdict and Hefty Penalty
On Tuesday, 29 April 2025, Barkingside Magistrates’ Court found Ullah and his restaurant guilty of fly-tipping. He was fined £7,150, which includes legal costs and payments to the council.
Council Hits Back: Zero Tolerance for Waste Crime
Councillor Khayer Chowdhury, Redbridge’s Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, slammed the dumping:
“The failure to correctly store commercial waste threatens the environment and public health, as well as blighting our local communities. We have zero tolerance for anyone disrespecting our borough, and this prosecution proves we will hold lawbreakers accountable.”
Residents Urged to Report Fly-Tipping
Redbridge Council urges locals to report fly-tipping immediately via their official Report It portal. The council aims to clear all rubbish from council land and highways within 24 hours of notification, keeping the borough clean and safe.
