Cop Faces Court Over ‘Wrongful Arrest’ Fail

PC James Martin, 35, from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, is gearing up for trial charged with misconduct in public office. The accusation stems from a December 2022 incident where he allegedly delayed releasing a man who had been wrongly arrested.

Denied Charges at Winchester Crown Court

This morning, PC Martin appeared at Winchester Crown Court and denied all charges. Judge Paul Dugdale adjourned the case, setting the trial date for October 6, 2025. Martin was granted unconditional bail until then.

Police Say Martin Placed on Directed Duties

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed Martin’s current status, saying:

“PC James Martin is charged following an incident in December 2022, which led to the wrongful arrest of a member of the public. He is alleged to have failed to take immediate action to release the man from custody once he discovered the arrest was unlawful.”

The force placed Martin on directed duties as the probe continues.

Trial to Scrutinise Officer’s Actions

The upcoming trial will delve into the details of the alleged misconduct. The court will assess whether PC Martin acted appropriately upon realising the arrest was unjustified.
