Isle of Wight Teen Admits Burglary and Child Abduction Breaches

Burglary in Newport Garage

Roobin Jones, 19, from the Isle of Wight, has confessed to breaking into a residential garage in Chatfield Lodge, Newport. The raid happened in the early hours of 10 November, where Jones stole a motorcycle helmet. Forensic evidence later tied him to the scene.

Child Abduction Warning Ignored

Jones was slapped with a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN) on 23 November, banning any contact with a vulnerable 17-year-old on the island. But he flagrantly ignored it, meeting the teen twice – on 25 November and 1 December.

More Charges Added

At Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 1 and 6 December, Jones admitted to burglary and two counts of unlawfully keeping away a child in care. He also faces charges for stealing a car in Ryde on 22 September, driving without a licence, and without insurance.

Sentencing Looms

Jones, from Culver Parade, Sandown, remains in custody ahead of his sentencing hearing set for 17 January 2024 at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court.
