Islington thug jailed over violent moped phone shop raids

Jack Hennessy Caught Red-Handed

Jack Hennessy, 19, from Islington, has been locked up for five years and three months after a daring smash-and-grab spree across east and north London. The gangster pled guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary at Blackfriars Crown Court in March.

In the early hours of 17 August 2016, Hennessy and three mates, armed with a concrete block, smashed the shutter and glass of a mobile phone shop in Haringey before raiding the store. Two stood guard on mopeds outside while the others looted numerous phones.

Thanks to quick-thinking members of the public, police were tipped off and arrived just in time to catch Hennessy. He was found carrying a six-inch knife tucked inside his waistband.

Crime Spree Worth Over £1.3 Million

Hennessy faced charges for 17 aggravated burglaries hitting mobile phone stores between May and November 2016. The gang caused thousands in damage and stole phones and tablets valued at more than £1.3 million.

Detective Sergeant Danny Watts warned: “Hennessy was amongst a group of dangerous men targeting mobile phone shops across central and east London. The judge’s robust sentence sends a clear message — crime on mopeds will not be tolerated. If you commit these offences, we will find you, and you will face serious jail time.”

Crackdown on Moped Crime Tightens

Hennessy is the 11th gang member to be convicted for the spree that left a trail of destruction across several locations. Authorities are cracking down hard on offenders using mopeds for fast getaways, determined to smash this rising crime wave.

This sentence sends a strong signal that London’s streets will not tolerate brazen moped-enabled burglaries any longer.
