Shock Arrest in 1998 Baby Murder Case!
Detectives have cracked open a chilling cold case from 1998. Baby “Callum” was found dead in woodland in Warrington’s Callands area in March that year. Now, nearly 26 years later, 54-year-old Joanne Sharkey from liverpool/" title="Liverpool" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Liverpool has been charged with murder.
Years of Haunting Investigation
Cheshire Police launched their probe after the grim discovery of Callum’s body, but the case went cold, leaving the community and family desperate for answers. In July 2023, a man and woman from Liverpool were arrested but later bailed as the inquiry trudged on.
Breakthrough: Rearrest and Murder Charges
On Monday, April 15, 2024, Joanne Sharkey was rearrested. The Crown Prosecution Service gave the green light for formal murder charges. She has been remanded in custody ahead of her hearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on April 16.
“This is an extremely emotional case which has attracted a lot of attention over the past twenty-six years,” said Detective Inspector Hannah Friend. “We urge the public to avoid speculation and respect the right to a fair trial.”
No Other Suspects to Face Charges
The previously arrested man has been released without charge. Police confirm they do not seek anyone else in connection with baby Callum’s tragic death.
