Leicester Man Jailed for Sexual Assault After Victim’s Brave SOS Call
A 39-year-old man from Leicester has been locked up for six years and eight months following a brutal sexual assault. Lee Young, from Sharpley Drive, Beaumont Leys, was convicted at Leicester Crown Court of assault by penetration.
Attack in Victim’s Own Home
The horrific incident happened in the early hours of November 16, 2019. Young broke into the victim’s home while she was asleep on the sofa. When she woke up, she found him kissing her and forcing unwanted advances.
Despite her attempts to push him away, Young turned violent, hurling objects around the living room before sexually assaulting her.
Quick Thinking Saves the Day
The victim showed incredible bravery by secretly using her iPhone’s emergency SOS feature, which automatically dialled 999 after pressing the side button five times. Police swiftly arrested Young as he tried to hide in a nearby garden.
He refused to speak during questioning.
Justice Served – Life on Sex Offender Register
On September 24, 2024, Young was found guilty. Three days later, he was sentenced to over six and a half years behind bars. In addition, he will remain on the sex offender register for life.
Detective Constable Rachael Lee praised the victim’s courage: “This was undoubtedly a harrowing ordeal which she had to relive in front of a jury. She has shown a tremendous amount of bravery and courage throughout the investigation and trial.”
She added, “I hope the fact he’s now serving a prison sentence brings her a sense that justice has finally been done and allows her to move on with her life.”
