New Year Violence at Battersea Bar

Mantas Bankauskas, 28, from Marston Avenue, Dagenham, has been locked up for six weeks after a New Year’s Day brawl in Wandsworth. The Lithuanian national admitted to common assault following a fight that broke out around 1:30am on 1 January at a cocktail bar on Battersea Park Road.

The clash involved homophobic threats and ended with a man being attacked, prompting police to rush to the scene.

Police and Ambulance Race to Incident

The London Ambulance Service confirmed they were called at 2:27am. They sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the venue.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took them to hospital,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.

Quick Sentence at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court

Bankauskas appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 December. He pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to six weeks in prison.

The Met Police spokesman said the conviction “sends a clear message about tackling violence on our streets.”
