Ex-TV Star John Alford Charged with Child Sex Offences

John Alford, famous for “London’s Burning” and “Grange Hill,” has been hit with serious child sex offence charges. The 52-year-old actor faces six counts, including sexual activity with a child and sexual assault. He was arrested earlier this year, reports The Sun.

Six Shocking Charges: What Alford Faces

  • Four counts of sexual activity with a child
  • One count of sexual assault
  • One count of sexual assault by penetration

The trial is set for December at St Albans Crown Court, with a pre-trial review in November.

From Child Star to Firefighter Hero

Born John Shannon in Glasgow, Alford rose to fame as Robbie Wright on “Grange Hill” in 1985 at just 13. He later became a household name playing firefighter Billy Ray in ITV’s smash hit “London’s Burning,” which pulled in over 18 million viewers at its peak. He also had a stint on “The Bill” and even landed a pop music career with three UK top 40 hits in 1996, including “Smoke In Your Eyes,” which reached No. 13 and earned him a “Top of the Pops” spot.

Career Highs and Personal Lows

Alford trained at Anna Scher’s stage school alongside future “EastEnders” stars Sid Owen and Patsy Palmer. Despite early success, he battled fame’s pressures, reportedly blowing large sums on alcohol and gambling after leaving “Grange Hill” at 17. In 1999, he admitted to drinking up to 18 bottles of beer and nine shots of spirits a night.

After stepping away from acting, Alford worked as a scaffolder and minicab driver before a brief return to TV and film in the early 2000s. He appeared in “Mike Bassett: England Manager,” reality show “Trust Me: I’m a Beauty Therapist,” plus bit parts in “Casualty” and “The Hatton Garden Job.”

Future in Entertainment Now Uncertain

With these grave allegations hanging over him, the once-promising career of John Alford in showbiz now faces an uncertain future as legal proceedings get underway.
