John Ashby, 32, has pleaded guilty to the religiously aggravated rape and assault of a Sikh woman, admitting to the horrifying crime at Birmingham Crown Court. The attack happened last October when Ashby, who has no fixed address, followed the victim off a bus and forced his way into her home while she was upstairs.
Victim’s Harrowing Account Played in Court
During the trial, police bodycam footage was shown to a jury of 12, capturing the victim being comforted by a female officer. The woman revealed that Ashby called her a “bloody Muslim bitch” during the assault — highlighting the religious hatred behind his brutal attack.
Rape Carried Out Under Threat of Violence
The terrified victim, described by witnesses as hysterical and screaming, told officers she was raped in the bathroom by Ashby, who was wielding a piece of wood to threaten her. The case is ongoing as further evidence and testimonies are heard.
