Man Jailed After Busted With 12-Inch Axe at London Train Station
Londoner Nabbed Carrying Axe at Victoria Station
Nithusan Gobinathan, 22, from Harries Road, London, was caught red-handed carrying a 12-inch axe by Project Servator officers. The incident happened on 16 April 2018 at busy Victoria railway station. He was found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon at Blackfriars Crown Court on 18 November and sentenced to seven weeks behind bars.
Project Servator Patrol Sniffs Out Axe
Project Servator units use a mix of tactics, including explosive detection dogs, to hunt down criminals and thwart terrorist threats. On this day, a sniffer dog was scanning commuters as they passed through barriers when Gobinathan’s suspicious behaviour caught the eye of plain-clothes officers.
He was stopped and searched, unveiling the axe unprotected inside his rucksack. Police quickly arrested him and took him into custody.
Inspector Slams ‘No Excuse’ for Weapons on Trains
“There’s absolutely no excuse to be carrying offensive weapons on the railway, and thankfully, Gobinathan will now have time to think about his choices in prison,” said Project Servator Inspector Pete Day.
Gobinathan’s claim he bought the axe for gardening was dismissed by the jury, and the judge handed down a custodial sentence. Inspector Day added, “We’re specially trained to spot people like him who try to avoid detection. High visibility Project Servator patrols like this run every day nationwide to keep the public safe.”
